It seems that a whole was accidentally dug in the 

Sky Land causing a woman and a tree to fall through.

 
Fortunately for the woman, as the world was all 

water at the time, the Swan caught her on his back.

The Swan kept her safely on his back till land 

could be prepared for her. By spreading the soil 

and planting the tree on Turtle's shell, 

creating the first land.
