In this painting, I have used a Tiger
Rockfish. It is found up and down the coast of British Columbia and Alaska.
A Tlingit ledged tells of a man who was abducted
by killer whales. He lifted up the edge of the sea, like a blanket, and walked
under it. In his journey, he came across some very pale looking fish that were
quite friendly and very helpful in his search for home. Wishing to thank them,
he painted them all red. The tiger rockfish have been red ever since.
