An interesting fact about bear cubs is that they are born astonishingly tiny. A human baby is about 1/20th of it's mothers weight, with the average in the animal kingdom being 1/15th. In comparison a newborn black bear is about 1/500th the weight of it's mother and a newborn grizzly is about 1/750th. If they were larger the mother could not effectively nurse them in the winter den and she would probably starve.
